Getting there

You can fly Sabena Belgian World Airlines (800-955-2000) or Delta from the U.S. Plan on a minimum of three nights in Brussels - and the on to Ghent and Brugges. There are also Sabena specials frequently available which may include a one-way coach ticket to London on the Eurostar using the Channel Tunnel (a delightful way to travel which brings you right into London's heart at Waterloo station). You might want to fly to Brussels and return to the States from London. Or consider another option - flight to Brussels, free train ticket to Paris or Amsterdam and flight back to Brussels, from which you return to the U.S.
